AQUA - AS Query Assistant

An easy-to-use Query and Reporting tool provided with AS Version 6.2

AQUA is an easy-to-use Query and Reporting tool included at no charge in ASv6.2. It was also included in ASv6.1 but has been updated and improved in ASv6.2.

As well as being used as a Query and Reporting tool it is also an easy-to-use tool for working with DB2 tables. You can easily list your DB2 tables and view the data in them. You can also run DB2 commands to create DB2 tables, update them, or even delete them if you have the DB2 authority.

What is AQUA?

AQUA, or AS Query Assistant as it is also known, provides a simple and convenient way to view data in a tabular (rows and columns) format using a simple integrated user interface.

The data source for AQUA can be any of the following:

• DB2 tables, views or aliases
• AS data tables
• AQUA queries (containing SQL SELECT statements)
• QMF SQL queries (after conversion to AQUA)
• AS queries (after conversion to AQUA)

QMF SQL queries and AS queries can easily be converted to AQUA Query format using the supplied conversion tools.

To assist you in working with this data AQUA provides three objects:

• AQUA Query with a query editor
• AQUA Form with a form editor
• AQUA Procedure with a procedure editor

AQUA also provides you with a Report facility. You can save the AQUA Query and AQUA Form associated with a report, and run them in combination to recreate the report.

Using AQUA you can:

List Data Objects

• View a list of the DB2 tables, views or aliases to which you have access
• View a list of the AS data tables to which you have access

View your data

• Create a simple one-click display (tabulation) of the rows and columns in DB2 or AS data
• Create a report using a DB2 table or view, an AQUA query, or an AS table
• Tailor and save the layout of the report using an AQUA form

Create and Run AQUA Objects

• Create, run and save an AQUA Query containing SQL SELECT statements against DB2 data
• Create, run and save an AQUA Query containing SQL commands (CREATE, INSERT, UPDATE etc) against DB2 data
• Create, run and save an AQUA Form
• Create, run and save an AQUA Procedure to automate steps
• Run an AQUA query, specifying an AQUA form

Save Objects

• Save the query tabulation results (rows/columns) as a DB2 or AS table
• Send report output to a printer
• Export report output to a file or to an FTP server

Convert Objects

• Convert a QMF query or AS query to an AQUA query
• Convert a QMF form to an AQUA form
• Convert a QMF procedure to an AQUA procedure
• Convert an AQUA query to a QMF query
• Convert an AQUA query to an AS query

Starting AQUA

To use AQUA under AS v6.2 no extra steps are required, because when AS v6.2 is installed AQUA is also installed.
